Philly’s most striking feature is those colonial streets. They’re delightfully narrow. My favorite part was actually the Italian food. There are a couple of great places in the “Gayborhood”, though frankly I didn’t like being harassed as a straight man there. Parking was a pain downtown. I liked West Philly, of course. Cafes, coffee shops, lefty-artsy stuff, gentrified neighborhoods). I could actually live there. From Philly, I actually went for an impromptu rafting trip down the Delaware up where the Catskills meet the Pocanos near Barrytown NY. I ate nearby at Hotel Fauchere in Milford PA, a sleepy town, but the breakfast at that hotel was mouth watering. Crazy scary driving at night in those mountains, though.
