South by Southwest (SXSW) is unlike anything else. Of course, all such things – TED, SXSW, 99u interest me deeply. I team-taught a workshop – Content that Captivates, which feeds my itch as an inveterate teacher, and I knocked it out of the park. Tons of value added, and lots of referrals. After that, it was as many comedy clubs, standup, and improv shows as I could take in. If I had the time and the cash to be there for all 3 of the festivals, I’d have hit the music and indie film scene heavily too, but alas the Interactive festival was all I could do. I stayed in the suburbs, so I walked for what seemed forever, even by New York standards – the rickshaw drivers wouldn’t go that far. I made up for it by staying out late whenever possible, and going to as many beer parties and free music performances as I could. A close competition with the comedy in town during the Interactive was with the presentations themselves. A few were tedious, but most were enlightening, inspiring, or thought provoking. I put as much time in with those as I could get.
